Dream Ball 2009 raises over $440,000 and breaks the record!
On Friday evening the 18th September 2009, the 19th Annual Dream Ball was held at the Sydney Hilton Hotel Ballroom. This year in a more intimate setting a crowd of 550 gathered to enjoy this significant night for those involved in the cosmetic, fragrance and personal care industrys, to raise the funds that will drive their own charity Look Good…Feel Better, for the next twelve months.
For the first time, the Dream Ball was the conclusion of Dream Week - 7 days of hope. An outstanding awareness and fundraising success.
The Dream Ball drew a crowd of CEO’s and key industry players from the Australian cosmetics, fragrance and personal care products industry. They joined forces with key retailers and media partners, leading to an evening of glamour, fun, and live entertainment. Kerri-Anne Kennerley, the recently appointed Patron of the program, attended and her own experience at her first Look Good…Feel Better workshop was profiled during the formal part of the evening.
A superb line up of donated prizes for live and silent auction included a stunning Chanel watch, a return trip to Hawaii, a week’s accommodation and travel to Thailand, and an unbelievable VIP experience to attend the Opera House’s Opening Night performance of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and stay in a luxurious Hilton Suite. A special key to offered 10 lucky winners the opportunity to open a jewellery cabinet filled with $15,000 of beautiful Pandora LovePods. The raffle prizes alone were valued at over $25,000, with a special draw of a $5,000 David Jones spending spree.
Showing genuine commitment to their industry charity and displaying true generosity, over $440,00 was raised on the night, breaking the fund raising record the third year in a row for this event. These funds are essential for ongoing Community service provided to cancer patients throughout Australia through the Look Good…Feel Better program.
Vince Sorrenti as the Special Guest MC, had the guests roaring with laughter and the fabulous Kate Cebrano and Carl Riseley entertained the audience through the night.
Dr Fran Boyle, Medical Oncologist at Sydney’s Royal North Shore and Mater Hospitals spoke with great resonance on the role of Look Good…Feel Better has played with her patients stating “You will be aware I am sure of the way in which the program may assist cancer patients to manage the assault on their self esteem that cancer treatment may cause. But you may not be aware that you are potential life savers, as sometimes the decision to have effective treatment at all rests on our ability to satisfactorily manage those most visible side effects.”
Kirsty Muir, a 28 year old cancer patient and guest speaker inspired the audience when she said, “The workshop completely exceeded my expectations and I felt amazing, sharing my experience with everyone I talked too. To say that I felt this way and was buzzing for days in the middle of probably the most terrible time in my life reflects how important programs like these continue to shine in people’s lives when they most need it.”
The tremendous work of Pat Harvey, the 2009 ‘Volunteer of the Year’ was recognised, and reminded guests how crucial the role of the volunteer is in the Look Good…Feel Better program. Tracey Mooney from Ringwood Private Hospital gratefully accepted Look Good…Feel Better Workshop Location of the year, recognising the key assistance provided by the health care facilities around Australia.
In 2010 Look Good…Feel Better celebrates 20 years in Australia.
